The Grainary has 40 acres of private land for our guests to explore. You can take a gentle walk down to lake to watch the birds or if you’re feeling more adventurous you can venture further out to either Harwood Dale or Broxa Forest, all of which have countless walks for all abilities.
With an ever-growing collection of animals there is something for all the family to enjoy, from goats to pigs to donkeys and sheep, they all enjoy the attention from our lovely guests.
Right on the Tour de Yorkshire route, The Grainary is the perfect base for cyclists who wish to explore the North York Moors. Whether you are a road or mountain biker, there is something for everyone.
The seaside town of Scarborough is 15 minutes’ drive away and the historic Whitby can be reached in 20 minutes meaning The Grainary is the perfect location for all.
Sit back and enjoy the views while your little ones have fun in our recently modified play area. With a sandpit, slides, climbing frame and swings there is plenty to entertain a range of ages.
Carl, Lauren and the team welcome you to The Grainary; a long-established working farm which has been farmed by the same family for over 5 generations. When retirement ensued, the business was listed for sale. Having regularly frequented as children and enjoying its breathtaking views, endless charm, and proper Yorkshire welcome, we just knew we wanted it to become the newest member of our family.
Our journey began in 2016 with the purchase of a holiday cottage complex just down the road in a little village called Scalby. With a lot of help and hard work from our family and friends we were able to grow the business and create a wonderful team.
Fast forward to 2021, and we decided to continue our journey... with the purchase of The Grainary! It was a big consideration for us with two young children and another busy business, however we loved it so much and have had so many memories from the place in the past we just knew it was perfect for us.
But we couldn't do it alone...
Welcome Scott, Bryony, Ted and Purdey!
For us family is key and we wanted to share The Grainary not just with visiting families but also our own. We were very fortunate that our brother and sister-in-law put a lot of trust into us and decided to leave their lives down in Oxford and return back up to Yorkshire to run the farm with us. Bryony is running the site operationally and is always on hand to offer help and assistance. Her love and passion for horses has also reached new heights - with our wonderful (and very cheeky!) two donkeys "Taco and Belle". Alongside his work as an electrician, Scott is always hands on helping with the animals, driving the machinery, and tending to his blossoming fruit trees!
You will also often see the rest of our family around the site helping out with Lauren's sister Fi caring for the animals (and them running rings around her!) and our children George, James and Ted causing mischief!
As a team, we are very hands on and want to ensure our guests feel welcomed and have a great time. Our aim is to create a home-from-home experience for all visitors and the opportunity to embrace all that The Grainary has to offer; be it a delicious meal in our tea room, the chance to learn about farming and the animals on site plus enjoying a peaceful nigts rest in one of our rooms or cottages.
We can't wait to welcome you!
